LLM in International Human Rights Law Scholarships
Giulia Mereu Scholarship is awarded annually to a student in the LLM in International Human Rights Law at the University of Essex.
This scholarship covers tuition fees for the academic year as well as a modest allowance to enable the recipient to undertake a one-month internship with a human rights organisation.

Graduate Fellowships in Innovation Law and Policy
The Graduate Fellowships in Innovation Law and Policy were established through an endowment fund by the Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund.
The Centre for Innovation Law and Policy sponsors a minimum of five Graduate Fellowships each year of up to $25,000 each.
Examples of subject areas that Centre Fellows might explore include:
# the law and economics of intellectual property rights to promote innovation;
# the regulation of electronic commerce;
# the law of intellectual property;
# Internet law and governance;
# the regulation of telecommunications, the relationships between competition law and innovation;
# the effect of different tort liability regimes on innovation;
# law and policy affecting the provision of capital to innovation enterprise;

Centre Fellows will be expected to make a significant contribution to the activities of the Centre, such as by assisting with conferences or similar events, becoming involved in networking, policy advisory or teaching initiatives of the Centre or assisting in the development of new Centre activities.
The Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) determines recipients of Centre Fellowships and award amounts based on academic promise, financial need and consultation with Faculty members associated with the Centre.
Centre Fellowships for SJD candidates may be granted for more than one year (to a maximum of three), provided that the recipient's research is progressing well and that the recipient continues to contribute to the activities of the Centre.
A fellow's contribution will usually amount to approximately five hours per week.

Graduate Scholarships in Reproductive Health Law
Graduate Scholarships in Reproductive Health are designed to permit law graduates from Africa who have an interest in human rights and women's health in their own countries, to undertake advanced research and study in this emerging field of law.
The scholarship is designed to enable students to explore the legal and ethical issues in reproductive and sexual health, such as the multiple causes of maternal mortality; barriers to availability of and access to reproductive health services; the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, including AIDS; and abusive sexual relationships.
Students are encouraged to select other courses relevant to their plan of study, such as courses addressing medical law and ethics; national and international protection of human rights including women's rights; family law issues including violence against women; feminism and the law; law and development; and law and society issues.
The Scholarships cover tuition and incidental fees, provide a stipend of $15,000 and books.
This scholarship is open to any graduate student from the targeted regions.
After completion of their Fellowship, a Fellow must return to their home country and reside there for a minimum of two years.
The purpose of the two-year home residency requirement is to ensure that Fellows fulfil the objective the Fellowship programme, the international protection and promotion of reproductive and sexual rights.

(3) EIFFEL SCHOLARSHIPS, MASTERS AND PHD
Eiffel scholarships are awarded to foreign students for study in France towards a PhD or master’s degree, primarily in three areas:

The program aim is to attract elite foreign students from developing countries. Under the program 400 scholarships are offered every year.
Master’s courses: Eiffel scholarship-holders on Master’s courses receive a monthly allowance, return travel, health insurance and cultural activities. (5) THE DESMOND TUTU MASTER'S SCHOLARSHIP
The University of Edinburgh will offer a Scholarship to a student from Africa for postgraduate Master's study within the School of Divinity for the 2010-2011 academic sessions. The Desmond Tutu Master's Scholarship will cover the full overseas tuition fee and a maintenance allowance of Ј5,000. The award will be tenable for one academic year.
Eligibility/Requirements:
The scholarship will be awarded to a student from Africa who is accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a postgraduate Master's programme of study within the School of Divinity. Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.

(6) AFRICA SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MASTERS AND DOCTORAL STUDIES
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has made funds available, to be managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and awarded as free-standing scholarships in the social and human sciences (SSH), the natural and applied sciences as well as engineering (SET) to postgraduate students from African countries (excluding South Africa).
Eligibility
Scholarships are available to non-South African citizens from African countries for full-time Master's or doctoral studies at a South African university. Applications for scholarships are invited from students who are currently enrolled for the degree concerned or who intend registering for the degree during 2007. Please note the following specific eligibility criteria for applications for Master’s and doctoral scholarships:
# These Scholarships will only be allocated to non-South African citizens from other African countries.
# Applicants must register for a research Master’s degree, i.e. the thesis component must weigh at least 50% of the final mark. Master’s degrees by course-work only are not supported.
# Applicants must have obtained an aggregate of at least 60% for the honours/final year B.Tech subject(s) if they are applying for a Master’s scholarship.

(7) CATHOLIC ACADEMIC EXCHANGE SERVICE (KAAD).
The Catholic Academic Exchange Service (KAAD) is a scholarship organization of the German Catholic Church that provides financial and civic educational support for high potential postgraduate scholars from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. The priority area is scholarships for Ph.D. studies.
Ph.D. scholars register at a German University, although their field research can be conducted in Africa. Ph.D. scholarships are granted for up to 3,5 years (including 6 months German language training) and for all subjects.
Applications for Master-programs in Germany will be considered primarily for candidates whose professional experience and objectives reveal that a Masters-degree, and not a Ph.D., is the final goal of their higher education ('terminal Master').
If someone changes his/her mind after the Master-program and wishes to apply for a Ph.D.-scholarship, he/she must obtain an additional three years of relevant work experience in Africa first.
Rare exceptions from this rule may be allowed for female candidates. For available Master courses in Germany please check: http://www.daad.de/deutschland/studium/idp/04709.en.html (don't specify 'language').
After selecting the program(s) you should contact the course coordinator and apply for (at least provisional) admission. Applications at Masters level may also be considered for programs in Ghana, Kenya, and Zimbabwe ('in-country scholarships'). Scholars who pursued Master-studies in one of these partner countries under a KAAD scholarship are entitled to compete for a Ph.D.-scholarship for Germany at any time after their Master's degree ('second scholarships').
Masters and PhD Scholarships Eligibility
# Significant social and religious commitment: A clear preference is given to catholic (or Ethiopian orthodox) applicants.
The ideal candidate should be creative, with a distinguished personal integrity and leadership qualities.
# Academic excellence: A university degree (Bachelor, Master) with very good results (minimum: '2nd class upper' with an average grade of B, CGPA of 3.2/4.0, or equivalent results).
# Upper age limits for Master's level and doctorates are 32 and 35 years, respectively.

(8) AUDIO ENGINEERING SOCIETY EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION
The Audio Engineering Society Educational Foundation is dedicated to encouraging the entry of talented students into the profession of audio engineering and related fields. Since its establishment in 1984, the Foundation has awarded grants for graduate studies to exceptional applicants, most of who have since gone on to prominent and successful careers in the profession. Applications are accepted from students world-wide, and Foundation grants have provided a measure of financial support for studies at major universities in many countries.
All applicants are required to have met several criteria:
# The successful completion of an undergraduate degree program (typically four years) at a recognized college or university.
# A demonstrated commitment to audio engineering or a related field supported by a written application and recommendations by at least two faculty members.
# Acceptance or a pending application for graduate academic studies leading to a masters or higher degree, or an internationally recognized equivalent.
Awards are made annually, in August, and recipients may apply for a one-time renewal after the successful completion of at least one-year of graduate studies. Payments for the original award or the renewal will be sent directly to the graduate school on behalf of the student's account. Completed applications including recommendations will be accepted from March 15th, but not later than May 15th. It is open to all nationalities.

(12) IDRC EVALUATION RESEARCH AWARDS
The IDRC Evaluation Research Awards assist Canadian and developing-country graduate students undertake their thesis research in the field of evaluation.
The IDRC Graduate Research Awards on Evaluation are intended to promote the growth of Canadian and developing country capacity in evaluation. Normally, such research is conducted in Africa etc.
Eligibility:
# Hold a citizenship of a developing country;
# Be registered at a Canadian university or a recognized university in a developing country;
# Research proposal is for a doctoral or master's thesis and has been approved by the thesis supervisor;
# Proposed field research will take place in a developing country
# Provide evidence of affiliation with an institution or organization in the region in which the research will take place;
# For doctoral candidates, completed course work and passed comprehensive examinations by the time of award tenure. For master's students, have completed course work.
Duration of Tenure: Award tenure corresponds to the period of field research in a developing country. In general, this will be no less than 3 months and no more than 12 months.
Value of Award: The award will cover justifiable field research expenses to a maximum of $20,000 per year. Candidates may apply for a renewal of funding for a second year of fieldwork if the nature of the research requires a second season of data collection. Renewals will be the exception.
Number of Awards: 2 per year.
Deadline: Applications must be received by January 15.
(13) GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR NON-JAPANESE WOMEN TO STUDY IN JAPAN
The NJG Program supports graduate study in Japan for non-Japanese women who are enrolled in graduate degree programs at Japanese universities.

1. Applicants must be non-Japanese, non-permanent resident women who will be enrolled in a degree program with a graduate school of a Japanese university.
2. Applicants must be residing in Japan at the time of application for study purposes.
All CWAJ scholarship applicants are required to be living in Japan at the time of their application. We regret, therefore, that we are unable to accept any inquiries from outside Japan.
3. Applicants must have adequate ability in Japanese, as well as English.
4. Holders of scholarships greater than Ґ1.0 million from any other scholarship foundation or from company scholarship programs are ineligible. Financial aid and awards from the university where the applicant will study are exempted from this limitation.

Dan David Prize laureates annually donate twenty scholarships of US$15,000 each to outstanding doctoral and post-doctoral students of exceptional promise in the chosen fields. (3) DOCTORAL RESEARCH AWARD FOR AFRICAN STUDENTS - UPEACE AFRICA PROGRAMME
This funding will be strictly allocated to African students pursuing their PhD studies at Universities in Sub Saharan Africa and in particular for those, who are in the final stage of their PhD studies. The award is intended to support PhD candidates in their field research, data analysis, associated travel, and production costs. (4) EIFFEL SCHOLARSHIPS, MASTERS AND PHD
Eiffel scholarships are awarded to foreign students for study in France towards a PhD or master’s degree, primarily in three areas:
# Engineering,
# Economics & management,
# Law & Political science.
The program aim is to attract elite foreign students from developing countries.
Master’s courses: Eiffel scholarship-holders on Master’s courses receive a monthly allowance, return travel, health insurance and cultural activities. Scholarship-holders might also be eligible for additional accommodation allowance.
PhD courses: Eiffel scholarship-holders on PhD courses receive a monthly allowance; return travel, health insurance and cultural activities. Scholarship-holders might also be eligible for additional accommodation allowance.
Applications from students currently studying outside France will be given priority over those from students already studying in France.

The UPEACE Africa Programme is offering a limited number of scholarships to African students in PhD programmes focused in peace and conflict studies. (8) GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS AT STSCI
The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) invites applications from advanced graduate students to pursue PhD thesis research with members of the STScI scientific staff. The research at STScI includes a wide range of theoretical, observational, and instrumental topics. The students who participate in this program normally spend 1-3 years at STScI; however, proposals for shorter visits may also be considered. Students in this program are expected to remain enrolled in the graduate program at their home universities.
A stipend of approximately $25,000 per year (depending on qualifications) is provided by STScI. Some support for tuition is also available if required.
Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent), must have completed all required graduate course work, and must have been admitted to the PhD program at their home universities. Interested students are encouraged to contact potential supervisors on the STScI scientific staff to discuss possible research projects (either before or after submitting their applications). The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has made funds available, to be managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and awarded as free-standing scholarships in the social and human sciences (SSH), the natural and applied sciences as well as engineering (SET) to postgraduate students from African countries (excluding South Africa).

Scholarships are available to non-South African citizens from African countries for full-time Master's or doctoral studies at a South African university. (11) MASTERS AND PHD SCHOLARSHIPS, CATHOLIC ACADEMIC EXCHANGE SERVICE (KAAD)
The Catholic Academic Exchange Service (KAAD) is a scholarship organization of the German Catholic Church that provides financial and civic educational support for high potential postgraduate scholars from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.
The priority area is scholarships for Ph.D. studies.
Ph.D. scholars register at a German University, although their field research can be conducted in Africa.
Ph.D. scholarships are granted for up to 3,5 years (including 6 months German language training) and for all subjects.
PhD Scholarships Eligibility
# Significant social and religious commitment: A clear preference is given to catholic (or Ethiopian orthodox) applicants. The ideal candidate should be creative, with a distinguished personal integrity and leadership qualities.
# Academic excellence: A university degree (Bachelor, Master) with very good results (minimum: '2nd class upper' with an average grade of B or above, CGPA of 3.2/4.0, or equivalent results).
# Upper age limits for Master's level and doctorates are 32 and 35 years, respectively.

(14) IDRC EVALUATION RESEARCH AWARDS
The IDRC Evaluation Research Awards assist Canadian and developing-country graduate students undertake their thesis research in the field of evaluation. The IDRC Graduate Research Awards on Evaluation are intended to promote the growth of Canadian and developing country capacity in evaluation. Normally, such research is conducted in Africa etc.
Eligibility
# Hold a citizenship of a developing country;
# Be registered at a Canadian university or a recognized university in a developing country;
# Research proposal is for a doctoral or master's thesis and has been approved by the thesis supervisor;
# Proposed field research will take place in a developing country
# Provide evidence of affiliation with an institution or organization in the region in which the research will take place;
# For doctoral candidates, completed course work and passed comprehensive examinations by the time of award tenure. For master's students, have completed course work.
Duration of Tenure: Award tenure corresponds to the period of field research in a developing country. In general, this will be no less than 3 months and no more than 12 months. Value of Award: The award will cover justifiable field research expenses to a maximum of $20,000 per year. Candidates may apply for a renewal of funding for a second year of fieldwork if the nature of the research requires a second season of data collection. Renewals will be the exception.
Number of Awards: 2 per year.

(15) PHD SCHOLARSHIPS FOR CANDIDATES FROM DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
The Special Research Fund of Ghent University allocates yearly a certain budget for students from developing countries in order to obtain a PhD at Ghent University. The candidate has to be a national of a country on the VLIR-UDC country list and have permanent residence in a developing country.
The total duration of the scholarship may never exceed four years. Before the end of the second year the Ph.D. scholar must write an application for extension.
Generally, two-thirds of the research is conducted at the local institution and one-third in Belgium. The scholarship holder is free to choose the periods of his/her stays in Belgium and in his/her home country. For practical reasons, the scholar is obliged to travel to Belgium at the start of the scholarship period. The funding covers tuition fees, travel expenses and bench fees.
(16) GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR NON-JAPANESE WOMEN TO STUDY IN JAPAN
The NJG Program supports graduate study in Japan for non-Japanese women who are enrolled in graduate degree programs at Japanese universities.
Eligibility Requirements:
1. Applicants must be non-Japanese, non-permanent resident women who will be enrolled in a degree program with a graduate school of a Japanese university.
2. Applicants must be residing in Japan at the time of application for study purposes.
All CWAJ scholarship applicants are required to be living in Japan at the time of their application. We regret, therefore, that we are unable to accept any inquiries from outside Japan.
3. Applicants must have adequate ability in Japanese, as well as English.
4. Holders of scholarships greater than Ґ1.0 million from any other scholarship foundation or from company scholarship programs are ineligible. Financial aid and awards from the university where the applicant will study are exempted from this limitation.

Dr. Arthur Clark, Professor in the department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary has been the primary supporter and founder of the Consortium for Peace Studies since its inception.
As Director of the Irma Parhad Programmes, established in memory of his late wife to recognize humanity’s creative potential around the world, Dr. Clark has been instrumental in bringing issues of human health and well-being, international law, human rights and social justice to the University and the larger community.
